Suikoden - Chapter 14: Preparing for Suikoden II

In the final post on the original Suikoden, we will look at prepping your save file for conversion to Suikoden II in order to achieve 100% completion in it. It cannot be done without some prior preparing in the original game. The first thing I should note is that your save file MUST be made at the final save point in Gregminster Palace before fighting the Golden Hydra; seen below.

Second, we need for Gremio to have been resurrected by Leeknaat. While Gremio is not playable, he does, however, provide a recipe item that cannot be acquired any other way. Whether any other character died in battle or not has no influence on them in Suikoden II. Now, let's take a look at the playable characters in the original Suikoden that will also be playable in II and receive bonuses in it based on their original game status. They are:

  • Tir
  • Viktor
  • Flik
  • Sheena
  • Clive
  • Hix
  • Tengaar
  • Futch
  • Humphrey
  • Valeria
  • Kasumi
  • Pesmerga
  • Luc
  • Lorelai
  • Meg
  • Stallion

Note, that while Tai Ho is playable in II, he receives no bonuses. Equipment is only important for Tir and Humphrey. Whatever headgear and armor Tir has equipped will carry over to Suikoden II; which should be Silver Hat and Master Garb. Silver Hat is only a decent headgear you can buy in II, while Master Garb is an amazing piece of armor that is only available via enemy drop. As for Humphrey, his armor is of utmost importance. His helmet will not carry over, but if he has Windspun Armor equipped, he will have the same equipped in II. The importance is that while you can acquire Windspun Amor in II, his armor is locked based upon what he had equipped in the original. Windspun Armor is, again, the best armor in Suikoden II, so this is the only way Humphrey can equip that great armor.

As for the remainder of the characters, the important thing for them is their character level and the level their weapon is sharpened to at the blacksmith. Basically, the higher, the better. Character levels over 60 begin to get bonuses to their starting levels in Suikoden II, going all the way up to 99. Honestly, unless you get them to 99, there isn't much to gain from this bonus. I would settle with everyone at least 62 before converting. For weapons, all characters should be sharpened to lvl 16. This is fairly easy to do and will save you potch as every character at weapon level 16 will get 3 free upgrades to their weapon in the second game.

If your save file matches all that is included here, you are ready to proceed to Suikoden II. See you there!
