Legend of Dragoon - Chapter 6: Land of the Stars

The second chapter of the Legend of Dragoon begins with the party arriving at the town of Fletz in the neighboring country of Tiberoa.

Near the center of the first screen, climb the stairs and search around the area they are doing laundry to find your first Stardust in Fletz.

Enter the weapon shop in the northwest corner of the screen and dig around in the box of weapons to the lower-left of the entrance for another Stardust.

The weapon shop holds a new, darkness-based weapon, Shadow Cutter, for Rose, Chain Mail for one of the guys if you didn't get the Plate Mail from the Greham boss, and Soft Boots for Shana and Rose. In my opinion, you're better off keeping the Demon Stiletto equipped to Rose. Not only are there several darkness elemental enemies in this chapter, but the increase in attack isn't enough to make up for the Stiletto's ability to inflict Fear status, but you decide for yourself. As for the accessories, the Wargod Calling is here if Kongol didn't drop it back at the Black Castle, and the Magic Ego Bell, that prevents the Bewitchment status is new. Toward the very end of the game you will find this in a treasure chest if you want to save the money, however.

Continue north to the next screen, then use the first door on the left to enter an accessory shop. Inspect the colorful gems in the lower-left corner of the screen for your third Stardust.

I don't care for any of these high-priced accessories, myself. You already have a Sapphire Pin, and you can obtain the Ruby Ring and Platinum Collar as drops later on, leaving you only needing to purchase the Emerald Earring you can't find elsewhere. However, if you have a surplus of money, the Platinum Collar, that restores 10 MP each time a character is physically attacked, can be a nice accessory for Shana.

Further north, you'll be introduced to the "rowdy" Princess of Tiberoa, Emille. The townsfolk seem to be shocked just by how much she has changed as of late.

After the scene, enter the second entrance on your left to find the item shop. Search the large telescope to pick up another Stardust.

Healing Breezes are now for sale in Tiberoa, along with the light elemental Trans Light and darkness-based Black Rain magic items.

Return to the entrance of Fletz and attempt to cross the bridge to the eastern-side of town. You'll get a scene where it's revealed that both Haschel's missing daughter and Dart's mother were named Claire. Interesting.

On the eastern-side, climb the large staircase to enter the tavern. Search the case of wine in the bottom-right of the screen to obtain yet another Stardust piece.

Enter the tavern to be forced into taking a seat by the hostess, Kaffi. You'll need to answer her questions correctly or else she'll get hot at Dart and get scolded by her boss. Respond with "Yes, we are." to her question about whether you are from out of town. Then, "I'm sorry but..." to tell her that you are actually searching for Lloyd and not there to learn about stars. Lastly, "Uh huh" to finally give in to her badgering to tell you about the stars. Instead, she'll suggest you visit a man named Fester to learn about the Moon That Never Sets. Kaffi will get back to work and it will be nightmare in the city of Fletz. There are actually a couple of houses you can only enter during night, but there are no items hidden in them.

Next door to the inn (Which is at full capacity for the night), toward the end of the screen leading north, is Fester's house. Shana will manage to get his attention away from his telescope and he'll invite the party inside. You'll get a special voiced movie, like the one from Minister Noish in Bale, about the Moon That Never Sets and its connection to the Black Monster appearing when it glows red every 108 years. Fester then calls Shana beautiful; of which Dart can either ignore or be a jerk about it. Either way, Fester has to leave to tutor Princess Lisa at the Castle (In the middle of the night?), leaving the party needing a place to stay for the night.

Enter the house in the lower-left corner of the screen, with the open door and light shining through, to meet Nello. He'll ask Dart if he's interested in hearing about his Green Project for Fletz. Tell him you are and he and Albert will spend the rest of the night talking while the others twiddle their thumbs. The next morning, Nello will suggest visiting the nearby town of Donau and as the party begins to leave town, they agree that it is the best course of action.

Head back to the tavern and Martel, the Stardust lady, and her baby will have arrived in Tiberoa. Watch the short scene and then give over the Stardust you have been saving. For finding over 20, she'll give you the Amulet accessory that doubles a character's MP. This is excellent for either Shana, for additional healing, or Albert/Lavitz allowing more castings of Blossom/Rose Storm during boss fights. Myself: I'm not using it on anyone, at the moment, but its usefulness shouldn't be overlooked to suit your playing style. Our next dungeon, the Barrens, is just outside of Fletz, however, with Haschel now a Dragoon, you may consider doing some extra fighting. Equipping him with the Spirit Ring to gain additional SP towards his Dragoon levels, as well as using any stray Spirit Potions you may still have can be very beneficial with his current addition selection. Also, you'll notice there is a Barrier Station on the world map you can use to return to Serdio. There are some new things going on back in that country now that it is free from Doel, but we'll cover those in the next chapter.

The Barrens is a quick and painless dungeon with a minor boss to fight. Upon entering, there's a cave on the right-side path you can enter that takes Dart to the Warrior Dress chest. This is a new piece of armor for Haschel and will have a limited availability for purchase later on. Simply wrap your way around the canyon via the northeast-side, then prepare for a boss passing under the above overhang.

A pack of thieves, warned about in Fletz, has picked the wrong group of people to try to rob. Just use your multi-enemy Dragoon magic like Explosion, Wing Blaster, and Star Children to subjugate these thieves. If using Rose, have her throw magic items like Dancing Ray or Fatal Blizzard, instead. The only thing you need concern yourself with is Mappi has the potential to use an instant-death attack, but usually he'll be dead by then. You get a Total Vanishing for winning.

Unfortunately, Dart lets his guard down and Mappi manages to knock the Red Dragon DS from him and make off with it. So, no Dragoon transformation for Dart for a while. To compensate, consider equipping him with a Power Wrist.

At the crossroads, the left-hand path takes you to the world map and a dungeon we will transverse later, so, for now, use the right-side path. Enter the first cove cut out in the rock near the beginning of the screen to come out on top of the rocky landform; follow it to a chest with a Recovery Ball inside. Similar to the Attack Ball, the Recovery version produces a random recovery item and in my opinion, should just be sold instead of taking up space in your inventory. You will be able to purchase them later on in the game. From the chest, use the action icon to have Dart jump down, then use the makeshift ladder to return to the beginning. Follow the linear, twisting path around the area, making sure to walk behind the large rock formation in the north to pick up an additional 50G, then exit out to the world map via the northwest.

Inside the Barrens and nearby world maps, the Arrow Shooter monster has a very rare chance to drop the Bemusing Arrow weapon for Shana. You can purchase this further on into the story, but it makes a nice upgrade for Shana; bestowing the ability to confuse enemies. The Flower City of Donau is just right outside the Barrens.

The townsfolk are relieved you're not thieves, although you appear as dirty as one, apparently. You'll then randomly see a flashback where Lloyd will have saved a Sacred Sister of Mille Seseau, Wink, from a group of thieves somewhere in the city before the party arrived.

Enter the first house on the right to automatically be introduced to Kate. Her fiance, Lynn, has gone off to fight the Gehrich Gang alone and she asks you to show the Letter From Lynn item to the Mayor to see if he may be of some help in stopping his suicidal adventure to their hideout.

Outside Kate's house, search the second pool of water among the flowers; just below the inn, to find a Stardust.

Use the stairs on the right-side of the screen to find the area where Lloyd saved Wink. There are some soldiers attempting to look for Lloyd on her behalf, but he's nowhere to be found. Descend the stairs down into the already-opened door where the weapon and item shops are. The item shop only carries the new magic item Rave Twister for you. The armory has a Silver Vest for Shana and a Tiara helmet for her and Rose, respectively. The Angel Robe's chance for resurrection may be taken into consideration instead of purchasing a Silver Vest for Shana, but in my opinion, she is desperate for the physical defense increase.

Return to the entrance of Donau, taking the left-side exit this time. Climb the large stairwell around to enter the Mayor of Donau's home. A Butler is guarding access to the very important Mayor, but will introduce you to him upon finding out about Lynn's Letter (Removed from inventory). Having taken his Dragoon Spirit, Dart will offer to track down the Gehrich Gang and Lynn much to the gratitude of the Mayor. Their hideout is apparently a place known as the Valley of Corrupted Gravity. Nice.

Still in the Mayor's house, look in his sink in the left-side corner for another Stardust.

Exit the Mayor's home, then reenter and, for whatever reason, the Letter From Lynn is sitting on the table and Dart can pick it up and take it with him. This has always been puzzling to me because it serves no purpose at all. Item collectors will take it though! Always great to add another item.

As you're descending the stairs, more of Gehrich's gang will be tussling with a platinum-haired dancing girl named Meru. She'll run them off, then turn her hammer towards Dart. Rose and Albert will comment about not having time for this and needing to hurry to save Lynn, exciting Meru. She'll pester Dart about joining him to help save her friend, noting that you won't be able to enter the Valley of Corrupted Gravity without permission from the King himself. Whatever Dart's reply is, we're going to be forced to take her with us and Meru joins the party. Besides bandits, it seems Tiberoa also has a problem with a Phantom Ship and a Sea Dragon out in Illisa Bay, too. Yikes.

You'll quickly see that Meru's HP is even lower than Shana's, with their defenses being similar, too. She comes equipped with a Mace weapon, like with other character's initial weapons, cannot be found anywhere else. If you got a Morning Star back in Hellena Prison, it can now be used by Meru. As for accessories, I recommend Meru be equipped with either the Therapy or Physical Ring; with the former being my choice. Having been equipped on Haschel, I replaced the Therapy Ring with a Wargod's Amulet for him. Meru is also of water element, meaning she takes additional damage from fire attacks. Our destination is the Twin Castle in Fletz, but I would suggest you use the Barrens to get a start on leveling Meru's Double Smack addition.

Back in Fletz, approach the entrance of the Twin Castle for a scene. You need a sponsor in order to enter and meet with King Zior, but Meru wants to bust through, instead. Dart can either jokingly agree or try to find another way. Whatever your choice, the group is going to need someone to vouch for them. You can talk with both Nello and Kaffi for small scenes, but ultimately you need to find Fester inside the accessory shop.

Fester can't help you at the moment because he is busy, but promises he will if you find him later on. He'll then be near the Castle entrance and invite you back to his home to talk now that his errand is done. Upon hearing the situation, Fester will agree to take you with him on his trip to the Castle that night. Meru will question as to how he is able to do this, with Dart being able to tell her the truth or feign ignorance. Whichever you select, follow Fester through the nighttime streets to the Twin Castle.

Inside the Castle, continue to follow Fester into the throne room of King Zior of Tiberoa. Presented with the situation, but thinking you and Lynn both daredevils, Zior will willingly hand over the Pass for Valley item and invites the party to stay and rest.

Toward the Castle entrance, on the save point side, have Dart inspect the large statue to pick up a Stardust. As you attempt to leave, Princess Lisa's maid, Libria, will stop the party and inform them of Lisa's wish to meet them. Having learned of your visit and Albert's identity through astrology, she will ask for your help in finding out the truth behind what really happened to her sister, Emille. Supposedly, she changed after a horse-riding accident, but with the timing corresponding to the country's Moon Dagger soon to be passed down to her, a conspiracy involving Lloyd seems suspect.

After agreeing to investigate the link, Lisa will ask the party to join her family for dinner. At the dinner, Emille, with her uncouth personality, only takes an interest in Dart and Albert. Upon learning that they are traveling through the Valley of Corrupted Gravity she will appear stunned, before trying to brush it off as them being foolish.

That night, the party will discuss what they've witnessed from Emille. Something suspicious is going on, obviously.

You're invited to stay the night at the Twin Castle, as well. Talk to Meru and Haschel to learn a little about Haschel's relationship with his daughter, Claire. Dart will then be presented a choice as to whether Meru would look good in a wedding dress or not. While not really important, the choice you make will slightly change a scene later on.

The next morning, the group will have free movement over the majority of the Castle. Enter the center room, on the second floor, just north of the entrance, and plunder the two chests in the training room for a Sun Rhapsody and Moon Serenade. The Moon Serenade is an unbuyable item that restores the entire party's MP, and besides dropped by a special monster, is rather rare; so use them sparingly.

Exit southeast of the guest quarters the party stayed in to be taken outside the Castle near the two towers. Enter the bottom, right-side room, at the base of the Star Tower, and search the divining object inside to pick up your 29th Stardust. Now, we can exit Fletz and make our way to the Valley of Corrupted Gravity. To find it, at the crossroads in the Barrens, use the left-side path instead of that right-hand one that takes you to Donau. You'll have to pass over several mountain ranges on the world map to reach it.

Outside the Valley of Corrupted Gravity, on both sides, the party can encounter the next special monster: the Blue Bird. Their HP has gone up to 5 now, instead of the usual 4, with an increase in evasion, but thankfully, slower. With the increase in evasion, you may consider equipping the guys with the Sallet helmet to help with their accuracy if you are struggling to land a hit. The usual trick works here: Land a hit, have the Blue Bird use one of its turn attacking and not fleeing, then throw the Magic Signet Stone item. If you're using anybody other than Albert/Lavitz without the Bandit's Ring, you should get four more cracks at the Bird before it gets its fourth turn and a chance to flee.

No items from the special monster this time, just a nice 1000 EXP bonus. If you're planning on gaining some levels though, I highly suggest you hold off until our next character joins our party very soon.
