Wild Arms - Chapter 12: Tin Man's Heart

The Volcannon Trap is located on a tiny island south of Adlehyde, directly east of Curan Abbey. Inside, search the sealed door and Jane will use a BIG Bomb to blow it open.

You'll commonly encounter the Bostbaboon enemy inside the dungeon. They're not of particular note other than you can steal Bullet Clips from them that are never able to be purchased. In the Volcannon Trap, the Escape spell is unavailable and there are two bosses, so try to converse your MP and avoid the lava to protect your HP. At the beginning, you'll need to proceed north several screens until you reach a stairwell leading down into a large, lava-covered room.

Beginning at the stairs, head clockwise around the room to a chest containing a Potion Berry first. Then, further southwest to a 971 Gella treasure, followed by throwing Hanpan to the southeastern chest for a Magic Carrot. Continue to follow clockwise to the west and, again, use Hanpan to transverse the lava pool for a Silver Harp accessory. From there, north a bit and to the right are two chests containing a Secret Sign and Bullet Clip. Finally, use Hanpan on the west-side of the room to pick up 1800 Gella, then take the exit to the far south of the room where you will need to Grapple your way over the lava to the descending stairs.

There will be, yet another, lava-filled room. Move south and push the purple Grapple post near the lava, Grapple yourself over, and have Rudy open the ARMs case for the Rocket Launcher. While initially this won't be very good, once upgraded, it will become a devastating addition to Rudy's arsenal. It attacks groups to damage, but unlike the Prism Ray, when used on a single enemy, the attack is concentrated for higher damage. Make your way to the west and you'll find another purple Grapple post to move into position, then throw yourself over to the chest containing a Lucky Card.

Continuing to the west, you'll enter a wide-open area with lots of Grapple posts. Swing Jack west, south, and then southeast to a chest containing a Crest Graph. From there, west, northwest, then west twice for a Potion Berry treasure. Then, northeast, for a Revive Fruit, followed by north, and taking the right-hand stairs leading down.

The stairs will take you through a linear area to a treasure room where Jane and McDullen will leave you. Unfortunately, the chests are all Jane's and there is no way we can get a shot at them. Instead, head back the way you came and take the stairwell on the left-side this time. After another linear path, search the cracked wall for a boss fight.

Zed's back, and is actually a formidable opponent this time. Use a Lucky Card, like always, and I recommend casting Shield on all three characters, not just Cecilia. Fortunately, Zed still only attacks one character at a time, but for surprising damage this time. As far as offense: the usual Hand Cannon and Meteor Dive along with Cecilia casting Slow and Armor Down, while building Jack's Force to lvl 3 for Sonic Vision. When defeated, Zed will bail out and you can continue north to a save point. Before proceeding, equip Cecilia with the Blue Circlet accessory.

Belselk, having spread the rumors about the Guardian Blade, is waiting for you to arrive. He attempts to use the ruins to strengthen himself, but thankfully, Jane doesn't much care for glowing pillars and will start blowing them up with her ARM leaving Belselk to only fight with his hubris.

Shield up on all three characters, once again; Belselk Breaker does a huge amount of damage to a single character. Use a Lucky Card and cast Armor Down, the usual stuff, then Hand Cannon, Meteor Dive, and Cecilia casting Valkyrie for your offense. He'll attempt to paralyze the entire party with Blaster Howling, but with the Blue Circlet equipped to Cecilia, she'll be immune and able to Mystic a Heat Salve to recover the other two.

With Belselk defeated, exit to the north to pick up the Red Malice, then attempt to walk out of the dungeon. Belselk will plead with an unknown character to save him, but instead, they slice in him two and the dungeon starts to shake.

Exiting, the ceiling will begin to collapse and Rudy will save Jane from being squashed, but trapping her precious treasures underneath. Eight chests and all she found was a piece of jewelry? Anyway...

Rudy will apologize. The second and final time in the entire game he speaks!

Meanwhile, back at the Quarter Knight's location, they will be more concerned with the fact that they can't call themselves the Quarter Knights anymore with Belselk dead. Mother has someone in mind to replace him, though: Boomerang, the man that finished off Belselk. Despite the other Knight's objections, she will send Boomerang out to take care of our trio while they build their defense at the Photosphere. A shield will then arise over their location. Back in Rosetta Town, Jane and McDullen will say their goodbyes and you can make your way back to the Sweet Candy. If you have the Gella, I would recommend heavily upgrading Rudy's Rocket Launcher ARM before leaving, however.

From the shores of Rosetta Town, sail the Sweet Candy southeast and you will find Port Timney. Continue to make your way southeast and you'll find a shore that leads to a caravan. Here, you can change any of the character's name, if you are interested. So, if you named Jack "Emiko" at the beginning of the game: now is your chance to change it.

A little farther east and you will see our next destination, the Tripillar. If you sail south from there, near a castle surrounded by mountains, you can find a bottle with a note written by, presumably, Bartholomew.

If you sail northeast from the Tripillar you will find an actual bottled item, a Crest Graph, to add to your collection. Some suggested preparations for the Tripillar dungeon: Buy as many Heal Berries as you can, farm Tiny Flowers from Mariel to get all three character's Luck to "Best", equip Rudy with the Thunder Rune, upgrade the Prism Ray as much as you can, and make absolutely sure you have the Moon Stone accessory from the chest back in Adlehyde Castle. Then, when you are ready, sail back to the Tripillar to tackle the next dungeon.

This is easily my most hated dungeon in the game. Not only is it bland, but the random encounters are way higher than usual. Anyway, enough complaining, search the monument in the center of the area and the three character's will have to split up to complete this dungeon. While you technically can send any character whichever direction you like, to reach the end, Jack MUST enter the western portal. I recommend Cecilia take the portal to the north, while Rudy takes the east. The Tripillar is also a one-time dungeon, so make absolutely sure to plunder all of the chests. While you can return to this bottom floor, the portals leading higher will disappear and remain inaccessible for the remainder of the game.

Starting with Rudy, equip him with the Moon Stone accessory to prevent Poison, and if enemies are grouped together, use Prism Ray on them, or if you got your character's Luck to "Best", you can easily flee. For the most part, this entire dungeon is linear, you just have to make your way around obstacles that are placed there so you'll waste time and end up encountering more enemies. From where Rudy starts, crack open the chest with a Potion Berry and work around to the stairs to the north on the west-side of the room.

The next couple of rooms are entirely barren, so just find your way to the exit, but watch for when you enter the above room with the blue switches. Each character will arrive here when they are halfway through their section of the dungeon. If you accidentally sent your characters the wrong way, you can use this to switch their locations. Simply stand two characters on the triangle-ish object and have the third character step on the small blue switch and the two characters will swap places. If you're following along, you shouldn't need to do this, but I am noting it just in case. Past the halfway point, the encounters are more difficult, so keep yourself healed.

Continuing as Rudy, he'll find a Bullet Clip in the next room.

On the following floor, open the Potion Berry chest and then step on the switch on the narrow path to open the door leading to the next staircase.

The next two floors will have easily-located switches that need to be stepped on to proceed onward. Then, on the final floor, have Rudy walk up to the statue to create a blue glow in the orb the gargoyle statue is holding. You can switch to another character now.

As Cecilia, swap the Moon Stone Rudy had and equip it to her. Cecilia's encounters are a lot easier than Rudy and Jack's, but still, don't get complacent. Cast Flame against the Geldams and Gremlins, and use basic attacks on the Fiends. In the beginning room, just like Rudy's, Cecilia can pick up a Potion Berry in a chest before working her way over to the stairwell.

Speaking of Fiends, don't they look just like Ganondorf? Yeah...so, continue to make your way along the familiar-looking linear paths until you reach the center area with the large blue switches.

In the next room, Cecilia can find a Magic Carrot before continuing upward. There will be three epitaphs you can read and a save point in the room, but you only need to step on the switch at the bottom of the room to open the door.

The following floor has another Potion Berry and switch to activate to proceed. On the last floor, there's one more switch to step on and Cecilia can climb the stairs to activate her section's gargoyle statue.

Jack's section begins, like the others, with a Potion Berry chest in the first room. Make sure to switch the Moon Stone accessory over to him and make use of his Heal Blade fast draw for recovery if you're running low on Berries.

The following floor is extremely important for completionists. On the opposite side of the room you climb up on, there is a statue that only Jack can interact with. If you sent another character to the west portal, you need to climb to the central area and have them switch with Jack; not just for the statue, but he will need his tools going forward, as well. When Jack searches the statue he will be thrown into three ridiculously easy battles with Critters (Steal Magic Carrots!), then will receive the hint for the fast draw Divide Shot. This skill will split a basic enemy's HP in half, but doesn't work on bosses. It will have considerable use later on in the game, especially when Lucky Shotting enemies, but for now, just make sure to master it. If you don't acquire this fast draw during your trek through the Tripillar, it is lost to you for good, just as further warning.

Continue to climb the Pillar up a couple of more floors, passing the central switch room, and in the room with the Grapple poles, Jack can find a Secret Sign. If you're curious, at this point, I had Trickster down to 1MP and started using my Secret Signs on Heal Blade.

One more Potion Berry chest and switch to activate on the very next floor, followed up by another one containing only a switch to open the stairwell.

In the final room, you'll need to send Hanpan to the opposite side of the room to flip the switch leading to the gargoyle statue. With all three statue's orbs glowing, the party is transported back to the entrance of the Tripillar to rejoin before a now-open door. I highly recommend leaving the Tripillar and sailing back to Port Timney to rest and reload Rudy's ARMs before proceeding. Also, equip Cecilia with the Holy Parasol accessory and the Flash Rune, along with Rudy having the Death Rune. When you're prepared, enter the newly-opened room and search the large box for a boss.

If you didn't have the Suction spell and Holy Parasol, the Mage Fox would be a difficult battle. Casting Suction on both Rudy and Jack makes them immune to the boss' spells. From there, have Rudy use his Rocket Launcher, Jack with Meteor Dive, and Cecilia casting Slow and Armor Down while raising her Force to lvl2 to activate the Flash Rune. If you don't have Suction, you'll need to make due with casting Protect or Reflect on the two guys. Also, make sure to use a Lucky Card, like always. When the Mage Fox is defeated, we receive the Blue Virtue and combined with the Red Malice, we have the heart that can wake the sleeping giant.
