Wild Arms - Chapter 6: Shrine of the Guardians

The Ruin Festival being over, the guards will now grant you access through the Mountain Pass to Milama. The first thing you'll notice, besides the darkness, are the glowing red flowers around. If you step on them, your entire party takes damage, so do your best to work your way around them. Also, before moving on, I recommend you equip one of your character's with the Moon Stone accessory to prevent the Poison status.

In the next area, the entire place will go black besides a slight glow around your party. If you move north a bit, you will see a lantern, but no way to light it...Walk westward, avoiding the red flowers, and you will find a Lighter tool before the stairs Jack can pick up and use. Return back to the lantern and use the Lighter to brighten the area a bit; but be warned: the flame goes out quickly.

Make your way up the stairs and to the northeast for another lantern and an exit. Light the lantern and walk south, Bombing your way to a chest with a Magic Carrot inside. You can then take the exit by the lantern.

More darkness, but a lantern close by. Take the left-side path to two chests: Heal Berry and Antidote, then Bomb the rocks out of the way of the stairs on the right-side path. Hurry along the linear path and, if you need to, there is another lantern to the south, but the exit is to the north with some rocks in front of it. No need for lanterns in the next room, instead, take the upper exit to a save point, then the lower-left one to be outside on the fringes of the mountain.

Outside, look out for these monstrosities. Not only can they inflict Poison and Disease, but they can steal items from your inventory, then on the next turn, likely flee with them; plus, their evasion rate is high. When you encounter them, have Cecilia cast Flame to try to kill at least one of them if Rudy and Jack's attacks happen to miss. If one of the Harpies happens to get one of your rare items, on the next turn have Jack use his Accelerator Force and target the pickpocket with Psycho Crack. There won't be a boss in this dungeon, so use as much MP as you need to preserve your items.

Near the entrance to the outside paths, there is a Heal Berry inside a chest, and then there will be a scene where the wind gusts inspire a new fast draw skill in Jack. Whenever Jack gets inspiration, a ???? skill will appear in his list of abilities. Attempt to use the skill during battle, and depending on how powerful the skill is and Jack's Luck status, he will attempt to master it. If not, a regular physical attack will be used instead, with no MP loss. This skill in particular is Sonic Buster and targets an enemy group, but is weaker than a basic attack. Afterwards, there are two treasure chests with Antidotes inside easily found, then back into the darkness...

In the dark again, trek a bit north and you can light a lantern with Jack. Hug the upper wall around to the left-side to run into another lantern to create some light. Bypass the red flowers and head downward into a large area. Use Rudy's Bombs to blow rocks out of the way so you don't have to step on the flowers, and look for the lantern to the upper-right of the room. From the lantern, walk due south to the next lantern, then continue working your way south and at the fork, take the left path. You'll see a treasure chest surrounded by flowers, so don't be an idiot like me and just walk on them to get the chest: use Hanpan. Inside is an Olive Branch accessory that prevents the Disease status. Note: You can use Cecilia's Mystic Force on a status defense accessory, like the Moon Stone and Olive Branch, to restore a character of the status the item protects against.

Take the path to the right at the previous fork and hug the left-side wall as you make your way south. You'll run into some rocks that need to be Bombed and past leads to another lantern and a semi-hidden chest containing a Crest Graph in the corner. From there, just continue south to exit out into the light.

There's a hidden door Rudy can Bomb on the right-side that leads to a chest with a Magic Map in it. You can then pass the Milama guards and out onto the world map. On the world map, if you use the Magic Map in your inventory or hit the Select button, a map of Filgaia with dots displayed for towns you have visited and your current location will be displayed. Make your way directly south to the village of Milama. There are no new enemies outside on the world map, if you are curious.

Arriving in the village of water, Milama, climb the right-side steps and pluck the Hardy Apple from the barrel outside of the inn, then take the left-side steps up.

Enter the house just north of the stairs to find a Cute Ribbon inside a barrel. You should replace Cecilia's Capuche helmet with this. In addition, Cecilia can use Mystic on the Cute Ribbon to cast the Hide spell. This item is also one-of-a-kind, so don't sell it by accident.

In a barrel in the lower-left corner, outside of the chapel, you can obtain a 10gal Hat helmet for Jack. This is significantly better than his current Cowboy Hat. Like the Cute Ribbon, the 10gal Hat you can never obtain more than one of.

North of the church, a guy in a red hat is selling armor; of which you should pick up each piece for your characters. Cecilia's Mist Blazer can be combined with Mystic to cast the Reflect spell, to note.

Continuing north from the armor salesman, enter the house with the two children to find a Mystic Apple in a barrel. Also, check out the bookcase for some information on what is to become the game's ultimate accessory.

Walk around the house and check the barrels to pick up another Crest Graph for Cecilia.

Head for the northeast, near the far-corner of the area, and there is a Heal Berry inside a barrel. You can continue to cross northeast, past the trees, to find a semi-hidden ARMs meister whom is bizarrely excited to work on Rudy's ARM.

Take the stairs down from where you picked up the Heal Berry and have Rudy Bomb the three large crates to find a Power Apple, Agile Apple, and Potion Berry.

Then search the collection of barrels north from there to find 690 Gella. Now, return to the entrance of town and take the middle-most path.

There's a a basic item shop, then further to the east, a weapon shop. Pick each one of these up for your characters to replace their ones from Adlehyde. With the Dream Wand, you can cast the Sleep spell with Cecilia if you use her Mystic Force on it.

Walk south, then climb the stairs and into the first house. You will find a Metal Band helmet for Rudy in one of the barrels. This is much better than his current Bandanna.

Pass the dog guarding a warehouse, something we will handle later on, and take the 123 Gella from the barrel. Head back to the weapon store and eastward to find a magic guild. You should have two fresh Crest Graphs to use. I'm going to be binding the spells Freeze (Black: Muse-Muse), a water-elemental spell, and Protect (White: Geo-Muse), a very useful spell that will raise a character's magic resistance.

From the magic guild, make your way west and take the Violet Rose from the barrel. Then, enter the pub and talk to the owner. Ask him about the Guardians and the party (Cecilia, at least) will have a nice meal.

He'll hand over a Holy Medal item and tell you an important clue for the upcoming dungeon. "Light the fire at 2, then again at 10. If you light the fire at 6, you will get an open door at 12". With this clue in hand, make sure to save and journey northwest of Milama to the Guardian Shrine.

Holy cow! Hope you enjoy random battles, cause the Guardian Shrine is full of 'em. There won't be a boss inside this dungeon, either, so make full use of your MP here.  Anyway, climb one of the sets of stairs and you will see a group of unlit torches in the shape of a clock. Use Jack's Lighter on: hour 2, 10, 6, and then 12 and all the torches will be set ablaze. Climb back down the stairs and use the Holy Medal on the sealed door to be granted entrance.

Walk directly south into a room containing three chests, each with a Mystic Apple inside. In the previous room, there are chests with Magic Carrots on either side of the room; exit through either door.

Both the left and right-side doors will take you to the same central location, but each one has a chest with a Crest Graph inside on its far-side. After you have them, take two northern doors to find a save point and another Lighter puzzle. With this puzzle, if you don't light the torches in the right order, you will become stuck and need to use Cecilia's Pocket Watch to reset. Have Jack light: northeast, east, northwest, southwest, west, southeast, and finally, the middle torch to open the way forward. In the next room, Stoldark, within Cecilia's Water Rune, will speak to her and the party will disappear inside of the mirror and be split up. You'll then have to navigate the battles and mini-puzzles separately, but in no particular order.

As Rudy, Bomb your way north, then, continuing to Bomb the rocks in the way, venture down the left-side path and Bomb two rocks. From there head to the right once, then up the path Bombing two more rocks. Followed by right once more, and again, two rocks north. Finally, work your way to the left-side path, Bomb two more rocks heading north, then the last rock in the middle, and you are out. In the mirror room, Rudy will save Tony from a monster, but the villagers from Surf will appear and belittle him; saying that he doesn't belong in Filgaia and is, in fact, a monster himself. Rudy will collapse and you are free to switch to the next character.

Cecilia's section is simple; she just has to push blocks. Is she encounters any enemies, I recommend using Blast to take out groups quickly. To start, push the left-side blocks twice, then the right-hand one to enter into the next area. Here, simply push the block on the right north, and follow up by pushing the other block to the left and you can exit. Cecilia will be back inside of Adlehyde Castle, where she will be confronted by her fear of not feeling loved and only being known as the Princess and not Cecilia, the person. She will collapse and be united with Rudy, with only Jack left to go.

Jack's portion is equally as easy. In his encounters, make use of his Sonic Buster fast draw to take out enemy groups. Here, Jack just needs to throw Hanpan around to obvious switches to lower the barriers in his way; a walkthrough isn't really necessary. Have Jack pull the sword from the ground in the final room and he, too, will be confronted by ghosts from his past. Calling him a coward for having ran...If you watched the video that plays from waiting a minute or so at the main menu, this will make sense to you. Jack, alone again, will collapse, but the trio will be back together again.

Having been tested, the group will finally meet the Guardians. Unfortunately, they don't think very highly of your skills, but they have no other choice but to put their trust in you. Without reclaiming the Tear Drop, the demons will awaken their leader, Mother, and Filgaia will be lost. With the Guardian's power, they attempt to transport you to the demons location, but will be unable due to the interference of the demons. Instead, they will send you to the land of the seal with the last of their powers. The party will also obtain the lvl 2 Force ability, Guardian Summon.

You'll be introduced to the Quarter Knights: Zeikfried, Lady Harken, Alhazad, and the already-familiar Belselk. Like most villains, they will drastically underestimate our heros, as they prepare to revive their Mother.

The party will awaken in a strange land, but will have obtained the Earth, Fire, and Wind Runes. I recommend the Fire Rune for Jack, Wind Rune for Rudy, and keeping the Water Rune on Cecilia due to being able to cast Shield, but the Earth Rune is a nice fit for her, if you prefer. After gathering yourself, make the trip a small ways northwest to our next village.
